Slight reminder to my non-Rican friends that the US leeches billions upon billions of dollars from us, we have no say in anything especially anymore with the “reform” that has taken away most of our rights, we pay same taxes as you people in outrageous numbers (right now at 11.5% on everything), AND have the most expensive import embargo that being the USA’s.
All of this is being ignored by the media and CNN, FOX and US media outlets keep pushing that WE’RE the ones leeching off of the mainland and it’ll cost YOU guys money to help us. This is bullshit. They’re killing us here and taking our rights away slowly. Please stop ignoring this.
Listen, I moved away from Puerto Rico because there was nothing there for me besides my amazing friends. And I hate telling people I’m from PR because of some deep seeded hatred of the people, the politicians, the culture, etc. etc. etc. But do I like seeing what used to be my home taken advantage of, and destroyed by big business and big banks? No. Shit like this has got to stop. The import embargo, and the Jones Act are fucking PR royally, besides the effect the “War on Drugs” has had on our citizens. This minimum wage would effectively throw the country into deeper debt, destroy its economy and serve literally no purpose other than to cause an even larger and even faster mass exodus of its people to the continental US and abroad.
Not to mention that Puerto Rico has the most Walmarts and Walgreens per square mile than any other country in the world. AND K-marts employs mostly people within the age this minimum page will affect.
In other words, this lowering the gap will only cause an increase in debts and only benefit foreign US retail stores that already suck us dry. (Which comes to no surprise) And let’s not forget that Wal-Mart sued the island because it didn’t want to pay as many taxes and WON.
Chiming in to say I’m in the same boat. Even in the country’s current state(paging somewhat above this proposed minimum wage) I could not find a job within one year of graduating from a bachelor’s degree. I spent a year looking for work on the island and found nothing, not even fast food restaurants wanted to hire me. Our generation is being slowly forced out of the island with this selfish legislation made so the US can keep profiting off the Puerto Rican people. Every year I hear about more and more friends who have to leave to find a better life, and most of them are young adults our age, with no established careers. Please spread this, please make others aware of the systematic abuses at work that keep my country and my people down.
The United States is an oppressive, colonial force willing to exploit a people so deeply mired in a land fraught with political corruption and economic disparity.

If you didn’t get the hint, I really, really hate MCU. I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but what Marvel has done is way too personal for me to be quiet. The one thing I will force upon you with all my heart, is my pure hatred of the Doctor Strange movie. I’m begging you, please boycott Doctor Strange.
What Marvel is doing with this film is inexcusable. I’m Tibetan, and I grew up in America as a child of refugees. My father was a fan of Marvel comics as a child, and one of his favorite stories was Doctor Strange’s, because of his connection to our homeland, Tibet. The Ancient One was a high Tibetan lama who taught Doctor Strange the art of magic. You might think Marvel’s only crime is whitewashing him, but its a lot worse then that. tl;dr Marvel blatantly turned the Ancient One into a white woman, as well as changed Doctor Strange’s original setting of Tibet to Nepal, in order to avoid any involvement with Tibet’s current politics (aka oppression) with Communist China.
The reason my parents are refugees is because of the Chinese genocide of Tibetans. Tibet is a country occupied by China, and is one of the most oppressed countries in the world. You probably don’t know much about it because China’s position as a global superpower as well as the government’s complete control of media and news. There is no freedom of speech in all of China, therefore national censorship is extremely common and no one who isn’t involved really knows anything. China pretends that all Tibetans are happyand they really do not like anyone even mentioning the Tibet situation, especially outsiders.
Marvel knows this, one of their main markets is their viewers in China. China has banned a lot of foreign films for long periods of time because of even slight implications of Tibetan oppression (ex: the Avatar the Last Airbender movie). Doctor Strange could get banned if they included Tibet, meaning millions lost. Why bother risking loosing money from China when you can just whitewash everything to cover it up? This is Marvel’s direct statement that they care more about money then human rights, and I’m honestly not surprised. This has always happened, and it will happen again. Literally no one gives a fuck about Tibetans, I’ve seen it happen all my life. Westerners and the Chinese government alike want to hide our oppression, hide our culture until it makes them money, and hide our millions of deaths and losses. If you do happen to be one of the few who do care, please, please, do not support this film and boycott Doctor Strange.
Because the MCU fandom is the SAME group of people who woobify Kilgrave, Loki, Ward, Kingpin, Norman Osbourne, and other white men who do evil things, while vilifying Nick Fury and Mike Peterson (two black men in difficult spots) erasing Rhodey (Tony’s ACTUAL best friend) treating Sam like a servant whose main job is to be everyone’s therapist, celebrate the death of Agents of SHIELD’S black characters, talk shit about Luke Cage and ignore his narrative, cheer when Malcom gets beaten up, and think its Claire Temple’s job to drop everything she does for Matt Murdock. And these are the black people were supposed to be SYMPATHETIC to. We’re supposed to CHEER for them. Now that we have a black person we’re supposed to dislike? HOLY SHIT. I’m already dreading the shit that’s gonna come out of people’s mouths when Dr. Strange comes out. Hell yeah I’m gonna fight for Baron Mordo.
