If Sanders doesn’t get the nomination, and you can’t see yourself voting for Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, then don’t. Vote third party.

Consider the Libertarian or Green Party.

Don’t feed the establishment by voting for Clinton, and don’t feed authoritarian isolationism by voting for Trump.

No. The absolute largest chunk of people considering changing their votes at the moment are disappointed non-conservatives. There was barely any competition among republicans; from the get-go, the voter base united behind Trump. If non-conservatives split their votes across multiple fronts, they WILL lose.

Voting third party in America throws your vote directly into the garbage. Our system does not work like Australia’s. You don’t get a second or third choice, and candidates who win aren’t going to look at the numbers and say “I see 25% of Americans voted Green, I should implement Green policies.” That’s not how it works. Conservative voters overwhelmingly back a single party, the GOP, while non-conservative voters are the ones that scatter across multiple, weak fronts when faced with an unappealing Democratic party nominee. Think about it like this:

The majority of Republican voters support Trump and are not changing their vote even though party leaders and figureheads are universally decrying him. They’ve been groomed for decades by the GOP to be this way, and now party leaders have lost control of the impressionable voter base they created for themselves. There’s nothing they can do about it at this point. While a small number of Republicans can and are switching parties, it’s not very much. Meanwhile, Democrats are floundering, trying to decide which front to unite under. Some of them go to the Green party or Libertarians, sure; the rest stay with the Democratic party in the hopes that even with people leaving, they will have enough to block Trump. But Trump doesn’t need a majority of total Americans to vote for him; he only needs more than the other candidates have. Do you understand what I’m saying? Trump could get 10% of the vote, but as long as no other party has more than 10%, he still wins. The second you split the left and middle across three or four fronts, the right seizes control. This is how it goes down every single fucking time we go through this.

The other thing to consider is that the electoral college is NOT going to weigh in favor of a third party. Doing so would be political suicide. They are paid to vote certain ways, and not doing so would fuck up their careers. Even if an entire state votes in favor of a third party, the electoral college is going to vote for whichever primary party matches up the closest, and sometimes not even that. Their votes are counted when making the actual choice of president; ours are not. They proved that with Gore. The majority of Americans voted for him; the electoral college installed Bush anyway and told us to suck it up. The question at this point is whether they’d risk it a second time, and we have to hope that they won’t, which is why we have to unite under a single front to block Trump.

^^^^^^^THIS!!!!!!!!!! People do not understand that under our plurality system, it doesn’t matter if the majority of the population doesn’t vote for Trump. As long as he has more than any of the other candidates, he wins. Splitting up the more liberal voters is now what non-Trump supporters want to do.

THESE CHILDREN ARE TOO YOUNG TO REMEMBER ROSS PEROT

And Ralph Nader.

DO NOT SPLIT THE VOTE, PLEASE! GOP is gonna vote Trump, they won’t vote for a 3rd party person. That means a solid voting bloc. Dem who split the vote are in essence giving him a free vote. HILARY WITH ALL HER FAULTS IS STILL BETTER THAN TRUMP!

GOD DAMNIT YALL BETTER NOT SPLIT THE DEM VOTES

This is how the Conservative Party in the UK won the last election with less than 40% of the overall vote!!!!
Don’t do it America!

NOT splitting the vote is how Canada snagged this magical unicorn man in the last election.  Basically everyone I know voted strategically, even if it was against their party, to ensure that Harper’s crusty conservative ass was kicked the hell out.  Personally I waffle between the Green Party and the NDP politically, but I sure as heck voted Liberal last election.

I am getting really fed up with people saying that they don’t have to choose the lesser of two evils, and so they’re going to follow their conscience and vote for a third party.

Well, I hope your conscience is okay with you voting Trump, because if you vote third party at this point, and Trump gets in, then that is exactly what you did, and you’ve been told this repeatedly prior to the election.

So, when the whole country goes to shit, I’ll be looking at you as well as the Republicans. Any vote other than a Democratic vote is a Republican one, at this point.

REBLOGGING AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN

Reblogging again mostly for the “magical unicorn man” comment, but also because it’s really really important.

^that

That is indeed how we got Trudeau – we swallowed our pride and voted strategically. In Canada, the political right is basically the Conservatives, whereas the left is split between the Liberals, the NDP, and the Green Party. Most of us NDP/Greens switched alliances last October, because for all his faults, Trudeau had the best chance of beating Harper – and TRUST ME, we wanted his ass GONE.

It’ll be the same in the US in November. Clinton isn’t great, but she is unquestionably better than Trump. Please, PLEASE vote strategically! The rest of the world is counting on you!

How many times must this be said?

I won’t say “You can thank Ralph Nader for eight years of George W. Bush” but…

Look at me. Look me in the eye. On November the 8th, 2016, one of two things will happen: Hillary Clinton will become president, or Donald Trump will become president. These are the only two possibilities. The superdelegates aren’t going to switch. An indictment isn’t coming. There is no third possibility. There is no space between the spaces where you can hide. Every vote for Donald Trump requires two Hilary Clinton votes to overcome. A Hillary Clinton vote can only be overcome by two Donald Trump votes. If you stay home, a Donald Trump vote doubles its power. This is the real, actual reality of the situation. There is not one other option.

And there’s no ctrl-alt-del for the election. Read up on 2000 if you doubt this.

And to those of us who supported Bernie, he WANTS you to vote for Hillary. If you believe in him and his mission you will follow his advice. He knows that writing his name in, or voting for anyone else besides Clinton, is effectively voting for Trump.

Refusing to vote for Hillary is a vote for Trump, no matter how much you scream and say how it’s not. And if you’re standing by to do nothing in regards to taking down Trump, then you ARE grouped along with the rest of the people in this country that ruin things for everybody else.

No, seriously, go read about the presidential election in 2000.

If you weren’t old enough to remember and/or understand the ramifications of the 2000 election, I WILL TELL YOU.

Do not let Trump win. Please. I beg you. I went to grad school with people who voted for Nader in 2000 and my FB feed is full of them begging others not to make the same mistake they did. Bernie has his priorities straight, and the priority is stopping Trump.

And if that doesn’t do it for you, this is the Republican platform 2016. It calls for:

If you vote for Trump, these are some of the planks of  the platform you’re voting for.

You 👏🏻 can’t 👏🏻 stop 👏🏻 Trump 👏🏻 unless 👏🏻 you 👏🏻 actually 👏🏻 vote 👏🏻

so I know you’ve mentioned that you can’t go back to Palestine, but I have a close Palestinian friend who goes there every summer and stays in Jerusalem and Ramallah?? her parents were born there and they go back every summer…. so why can they go but not you ??

It’s really a complicated topic, but anyways I will explain.

Israel doesn’t know immediately know off the bat at the border who’s Palestinian and who’s not, unless you carry a Palestinian passport or your birthplace is Palestine and/or your name sounds Palestinian.

And Israel divides Palestinians into categories and they don’t get treated the same/enjoy the same rights, and Israel categorizes them and determines which is which with different IDs that it issues.

Anyways, Israel divides Palestinians to mainly 5 categories (4 of these 5 get their own different ID that’s issued by Israel):

  • Palestinians of Gaza
  • Palestinians of the West Bank
  • Palestinians of Jerusalem
  • Palestinians of ~Israel~
  • Exiled Palestinians (Don’t have IDs issued by Israel)

Each of these 5 have different travel restrictions and different living restrictions:

Let me break it down:

  • For Palestinians of Gaza (like me):
    • We are not allowed to live in ~Israel~ (this one is obvious), or the West Bank, or Jerusalem
    • We are not allowed to travel to ~Israel~, the West Bank, or Jerusalem (Unless we apply for a temporary travel permit that Israel issues, which is not easy to obtain)
  • For Palestinians of the WB (I’m not entirely aware of their restrictions but I will list what I know):
    • They

are not allowed to live in ~Israel~, Jerusalem, or Gaza (They technically can live in Gaza if they someway how managed to sneak in but they will face difficulties with anything document related)

    • They can’t travel to ~Israel~, or Jerusalem (For Jerusalem it depends on the mood of the Israeli soldier at the checkpoint and how naive they’re, sometimes they would let them, sometimes they won’t.), or Gaza (during Morsi’s time, they were able to go to Gaza via Egypt but after he’s gone, now it became almost impossible for even Palestinians of Gaza to go in and out of Gaza)
  • For Palestinians of Jerusalem:
    • They’re only allowed to live in Jerusalem, but if they live outside of Jerusalem (let’s say the WB) for more than 7 years they cannot go back and live there anymore. (I’m not sure if they can live in ~Israel~)
    • They can’t travel to Gaza
  • For Palestinians of ~Israel~:
    • They

are not allowed to live in Gaza or the West Bank.

    • They are prohibited to travel to Gaza, and if they did they would be tried in court.
  • For Palestinians in Exile:
    • Not allowed to live in any part of Palestine (They also technically can live in Gaza if they someway how managed to sneak in but they will face difficulties with anything document related)
    • Can visit Palestine if they have Western passports (Australian, British, Canadian, American, etc.) and if the Israeli officer at the border/checkpoint was in a good mood that day.

Also here’s an infographic that might help:

image

So yeah, it’s not black and white.

At the end it all depends on what you look like, whether your name sounds Palestinian or not, your birthplace, whether you carry a Palestinian ID or not (and the type of that ID), what kind of passport you carry, and also the mood of the Israeli officer at the border that day.

Even with my Canadian passport, I can’t easily go to the WB or Jerusalem, once I step at the border they will see that my birthplace says Gaza (Canada lists the name of Palestinian cities as the place of birth instead of listing Palestine) and they will cross-check my name with the Israeli population registry for Palestinians, and find out I’ve a Palestinian ID.

Once they found out they will interrogate me for hours and ask me a series of questions, and depending on how I answered those questions and on their mood they will either:

  • Turn me back.
  • Tell me to go to Gaza and apply for a travel permit from there.
  • Offer me to denounce my Palestinian ID (i.e. give away my right to live in and travel to Gaza) and then let me in.
  • Let me in (Which rarely happens, only 10%-20% of the Gazans I know here (who carry Palestinian IDs and Canadian passports) were allowed in.)

Israel is a fucking Apartheid state lmao

wholove:

It’s just past 9am and

  • The UK has voted to leave the EU 52% to 48%
  • The pound has fallen so much so that it is at a 30 year low
  • Seriously like 10%? it dropped so fucking fast guys
  • As a result the UK is no longer the fifth largest economy, France has overtaken us
  • David Cameron the Prime Minister has just resigned with a new leader to be elected in October
  • I say elected, I mean Tory members will vote on who from their party should be a our new Prime Minister..they have 150,000 members
  • That’s right 150,000 people will choose this entire country’s leader
  • Oh btw Scotland? ALL voted to remain so guess who is probably gonna hold another referendum on whether to leave the UK? And probably vote out? And then probably join the European Union on their own
  • Meanwhile Northern Ireland (who also voted to remain) are talking about possible unification of Ireland
  • Wales let the whole Remain side down by somehow being the country that gets the most EU support and yet also voted to leave
  • Nigel Farage has already backtracked saying that the £350 million (not true) we apprently sent to the EU would not in fact go to the NHS as promised and it was a mistake to give that impression
  • It’s looking likely that Boris Johnson (Basically Donald Trumps British cousin) is going to be our next PM
  • He did a shit job as London Mayor once but apparently he suddenly knows his stuff idk
  • he looks like this
  • an economic shit show is happening right now as all the experts predicted but we did it anyway

So yeah. How was your morning?
