The administration’s claims about crowd size at the inauguration are a pure distraction. In the past 24 hours, Trump signed executive orders aimed at the ACA and installing his cabinet, deleted the pages related to LGBT rights, national AIDS policy, and climate change from the white house website, and all foreign ambassadors have been fired. Throwing up obvious lies about numbers and yelling at the press is just an attempt to make people focus on those lies instead of the real things they are currently doing.

Folks, this is a pattern. This is what he *does*. It’s his Thing. Whenever he starts up something particularly outrageous on social media, look for the legal/political shenanigans for which he’s using the social media circus as a cover.

If you feel he is altering the news – and he is – go global, get your news from international sites – The Guardian (uk) the BBC (uk) Al Jazeera, Reuters all of them have nothing to lose by going hard for him, so they do

The Guardian is running with the gag order, and leaving the transpacific partnership

The BBC is listing everything he’s doing by executive order

Reuters is talking about the lawsuit about conflicts of interest

and Al Jazeera is go with how the pope thinks he’s like Hitler

if you can’t trust the news in your own country – go international – they don’t have the same pressures and are just as accessible on the internet

Republicans in Congress fear Donald Trump’s Breitbart-fueled internet mob

  • Trump and his top aides have a plan to keep Republicans in Congress in line: A band of conservative internet trolls stoked by Breitbart News.
  • In the 2016 election, Breitbart’s ability to stoke the far right and morph it into a vulgar, hate-spewing internet mob in order to browbeat Republicans into supporting Trump became a powerful political weapon.
  • And that’s poised to continue with Bannon by Trump’s side in the White House.
  • “We met with probably, on the low boundary, 30 members of Congress,” Rick Wilson, an anti-Trump Republican consultant, told Mic in an interview.
  • “And over and over and over again they said things like, ‘Well, I hate Trump, he’s an asshole, he’s a dang liberal, but if I say anything, Breitbart’s going to send his people after me and they’re going to threaten my staff and threaten me and I’ll have nothing but Sean Hannity kicking the shit out of me.’” Read more

The Washington Post broke this news yesterday. It has since been picked up by several other major media outlets.

If the CIA and this reporting is to be believed, the GOP-lead Senate deliberately ignored this information from the CIA to gain power. Someone needs to act BEFORE the Electoral College meets on Dec 19th.

So far Lindsay Graham is the only Republican to speak up in outrage. And the only Democrat to make waves has been Harry Reid (who is retiring). The GOP’s reaction is understandable. Trump’s reaction has been as scary as everything else he has done, but 100% understandable. But the Dems? Pure cowardice, as usual. Obama himself needs to do something about this, because any investigation will end on Jan 20th.

And YOU reading this need to make serious waves. Our highest Intelligence agency has claimed this election was stolen. Trump WILL get away with this if we don’t take to the streets, IMMEDIATELY. Call someone. Write something. None of this is politics as normal! People need to be jailed for this. This is the literal definition of influence from a foreign government, and exactly what the Electoral College was made to stop.

Wyomingites are monstrous giants who decide the fate of normal-sized Californians with an iron fist

But seriously though this is why the electoral college system doesn’t make sense in modern America. It effectively reduces the validity of your vote as an individual if you happen to share your state with more people. It pretends every state is like a mini-country with its own unique and special interests rather than treating all Americans as a single population.

Because they are? That’s why each state has a Governor and a Congress? Because the needs of the people in Wyoming are not the same as the needs of the people in California? We’re a Union of separate States under a Federal representative government; aka UNITED STATES (note the plural?). That’s why there’s two houses in the national Congress, and why Presidents compete for States, not popular vote alone. Because each state IS significantly different from the others and have their own unique problems, cultures, habits, and needs.

And while each person in Wyoming has more ‘voting power’, it’s because their state is only worth 3 Electoral votes. Without the Electoral System, the greater Midwest would be absolutely worthless to Presidential candidates. They wouldn’t need to care about the problems in Wyoming, Montana, Arkansas, Kansas, etc, leaving these states effectively voiceless in elections, their concerns unaddressed.

The system ensures that the states with the largest populations have the highest values, but the states with smaller populations still carry significant weight, compelling Presidents to actually at least give a show of caring about their problems and perspectives.

Welcome to a representative republic; where you can’t just do whatever you want simply because you have more people. The power and rights of the smaller states are protected by the Electoral College and other systems so that no State is voiceless in government.

So please, go to Texas and tell them they have the same problems as people in Maine. Or tell a man from Chicago that he might as well be from Brooklyn. Yes, we’re all Americans, but to pretend the States don’t have their own unique needs and cultures is just turning a blind eye to reality.

The president ends up impacting things that DO affect our entire population the same. Health care laws. Environmental regulations. Whether or not we go to war.  The individual states have their own governors to worry about their differing needs. The U.S. president is equally the problem of everyone regardless of where they live.

Our choice in president effects the entire country, where as individual state laws effect individual states, and are voted upon by said states.

The electoral college does not decide individual state laws, California can not weigh in on laws in Wyoming.  At this point in our nation, electoral colleges do little but directly cause vote inequality.

The point is, getting rid of the electoral college would get rid of sectioning out votes by states, and make every US citizen’s vote equal.

No one state would be deciding anything, instead the populous of our country would make the decision, you know, like a democracy.

Yep, and no matter how anyone tries to rationalize it, one state is not one interest group. One state is home to many different demographics in many different circumstances and does not suddenly give way to a whole different set when you step over the state line.

Look how Arizona voted this year, for instance:

Trump won the popular vote in Arizona by less than 5%.

This is a state which is, incidentally, listed as “37% Hispanic,” and only about 51% white.

We know that 60-70% of white people voted red this election nationwide, while some 80-90% of minorities voted blue because Trump’s entire campaign treated them as enemies of this country.

If it’s not fair for California’s larger total population to have more say than Wyoming’s smaller total population, then why is it fair for Arizona’s only marginally larger white population to decide the entire state’s vote?

If we went by total popular vote rather than the electoral college system, then the voices of the minority populations in these states would have actually mattered and their interests heard fairly, instead of drowned out by a 5% margin.

People are arguing that the electoral college exists to give “smaller populations” BY STATE an equal say, and yes, that is technically what it’s doing – by erasing smaller populations within those states. It is doing the exact opposite of leveling the field.

Not to mention that the Electoral College doesn’t even do a good job of making sure that all states get representation, since it’s feasible to win the White House with only 11 states out of 50. Which is bullshit.

Not to mention no presidential candidate goes to campaign in Wyoming anyway because there are so few people in it, nor do they campaign much in any state where it’s already known which party it will vote for due to the electoral system. If every individual vote in the country was added together candidates would actually visit MORE states, and not just concentrate on the swing states.

Remember that time when Pence made a last minute decision to not sign an application for a grant that would have made preschool in Indiana more accessible and help fix our crumbling infrastructure?

Remember that stern letter that a bunch of big businesses in Indiana wrote to Pence because he signed a law that was discouraging business from both within and without the state of Indiana?

Oh, and that time that Pence caused an HIV outbreak in rural Indiana because the only clinic that did HIV testing was a Planned Parenthood and his fixation on defunding reproductive rights caused it to close- even though that particular clinic didn’t even offer abortion services?

And then there’s the “Pence Must Go” signs all over central Indiana…

And who could forget the time that he planned on using taxpayer dollars to fund a news outlet because he couldn’t control the negative image surrounding him from the press.

What about the time that the FEC had to rewrite laws to prevent challenging candidates from using campaign funds for personal use because Mike Pence used 30% of his campaign funds on mortgage payments and golf tournaments?

And who else remembers when they were giving states a chance to individually tailor their Clean Energy laws to fit the needs of the state and Pence just said ‘no’ and didn’t offer any alternative?

Hey, what about that time that Pence stated that condoms were ‘too modern’ of a solution to HIV and STI prevention and that abstinence was the best choice?

Remember also that 49% of pregnancies in Indiana are unintended, and that out of 1000 teenagers, an average of 49 will become pregnant before they age of 19. And that STI cases have reached record rates for the state of Indiana.

Oh! Remember when Pence went against the advice of legal professionals and signed a good number of laws that mean that you are classified as a drug dealer (whether proven or not) if you are found with a certain quantity of drugs in your possession, and increased the minimum sentence to ten years- even when it was argued by many legal sources that the best way to combat drug use is rehabilitation and not incarceration?

How about the time that he campaigned heavily against raising the minimum wage to match neighboring states, even though an overwhelming majority of Hoosiers polled said that they support a $9/hr wage and approximately 93000 residents of the state bring home less than $300 a week?

Or that time he stripped the office of state superintended of all its meaningful power because he didn’t like who won.  (More.)

That person being Glenda Ritz, who by the way, received more votes than Pence.

Of course, I thought that it needed no mention, but who could ever forget the national embarrassment that was the RFRA laws, which allowed business-owners to refuse service to people if they felt ‘religiously burdened,’ which essentially boiled down to discriminating people who are part of the LGBTQ community.

And you know I’d love to rant about Mike Pence all day long, but for those of you who want a more comprehensive list of how incompetent he’s been as our governor, this one sums it up pretty nicely and has sources!

Oh, but don’t take my word for it: here’s another masterpost of all this and more.

And just in case you thought he was done being awful- how about the time that Pence and Trump made a visit to Louisiana despite the fact that politicians were asked NOT to visit the flooded areas for essentially photo ops because its a further strain on resources? Meanwhile, South Bend IN is currently experiencing a flood where a visit would not be a negative impact the resources, but a photo op in Baton Rouge is more important somehow.

Also seemingly less important than an unwelcome photo op is the soil in East Chicago, IN- which has a lead content 30 times what is considered unsafe levels for children to be in contact with. This comes from a man whose initial decision not to run for President was based on his ‘need to focus on his home state.’

Of course, everyone remembers how the RFRA, a law that was written in the spirit of LGBTQ discrimination, was strongly protested but signed anyway. No one could have possibly guessed that people would try to use it to justify child abuse- except for literally every person who protested.

But to put a little more levity in this post, Purvi Patel’s sentence of feticide has been reduced to ‘child neglect’ and she’s out of jail. So that’s good news!

Of course, injustices like these haven’t stopped radical anti-choice laws from being signed in during the entire run of the controversy.

Where the fuck was this before the election

This has been around since Pence was named his running mate in May.

Mike “Christian Sharia” Pence is Scarier than Donald Trump…

ladytudorrose:

varickglobalindustries:

confrontingbabble-on:

“Pence is no Uncle Joe.His record as governor indicates that he
is willing to completely undermine the core values of a free country in
order to impose his own vision of theocratic control.

While
Donald Trump is a bumbling political idiot, Mike Pence is actively
against the people and possibilities that we need to help America to
have a strong future. His career has been built on hateful exclusion,
not intelligent inclusion.

Here are some things that every voter should know about Mike Pence:

– Science and invention helped build America, but Mike Pence is 100% anti-science.
He chooses not to accept the preponderance of evidence that supports
anthropomorphic climate change, and he thinks schools should be required
to teach Christian “creationism” mythology alongside evolution in
science classrooms.

Mike Pence is anti-environment.
As governor, he has vetoed every piece of environmental regulation that
has crossed his desk. He doesn’t want the EPA to regulate greenhouse
gases, and he does want to open up pretty much every part of our country
to oil and coal companies. No more wildlands under Pence. He is one of
those irresponsible extremists who think that God gave us the world so
we could just use it up, and when it is all used up the second coming
will occur. There is no Biblical basis for this belief.

– Females make up more than half of the American population, but Mike Pence is anti-woman.
He has said the Disney movie “Mulan,” which was based on a centuries
old Chinese poem, was the work of a “mischievous liberal” trying to
groom young children to accept women in combat. “Despite her delicate
features and voice, Disney expects us to believe that Mulan’s ingenuity
and courage were enough to carry her to military success on an equal
basis,” he wrote on his radio show’s website.

He obsessively pursues a personal vendetta to take Title X funding
away from Planned Parenthood
because Planned Parenthood provides
abortion services. Title X money CANNOT be used for abortions. Abortions
are paid for by the recipient or through private, tagged donations.
Taking away Title X will not impact abortion services, but it would
leave thousands of women without access to cancer screenings or birth
control.

– Speaking of birth control, Mike Pence once again revealed his historical ignorance in saying that condoms are “modern” and “liberal.”
He thinks all women should be pregnant unless they can’t afford a baby,
in which case they should abstain from sex, even if they are married.
That’s right: sex is only for procreation in PenceWorld. If you can’t
afford the diapers, then hubby should be sleeping on the couch.

Mike Pence is also anti-gay,
to the point of denial. He doesn’t want the government to pay for
cancer screenings, but he does want the government to pay for abusive
“conversion therapy” programs that systematically undermine the victim’s
self-esteem, and then indoctrinate them into robotic gender-appropriate
behaviors. He has signed into law a bill that allows discrimination
against LGTBQ customers based on religious belief.

– As governor of Indiana, Mike Pence was personally responsible for an outbreak of AIDS when he refused to allow clean needle exchanges for drug addicts. Instead, he asked people to pray for the addicts.

Mike Pence is racist.
He thinks there is “too much talk” about institutional racism in law
enforcement because “police officers are human beings.” His solution is
unity through “faith.” The Indiana governor has tried to prevent Syrian
refugees from settling in his state because the “pose a threat to safety
of residents.” Pence argued that his policy was based on fear, not
race, so it wasn’t discriminatory. A Federal Appeals Court dismissed his
racist arguments on October 3, 2016.

A Federal Court also had to block his bizarre anti-abortion law
that required burial or cremation for fetuses, whether miscarried or
aborted, no matter how far along the pregnancy had progressed.

Mike Pence is pro-birth, but not pro-life.
He once funneled $3.5M dollars from Temporary Assistance to Needy
Families into programs that counsel against abortion. He wants those
women to have those babies, but he doesn’t care if the kids starve or
live on the streets afterward.

Mike Pence has refused to comply with federal guidelines aimed at reducing prison rape.

When
you add it all together, you can see that the most dangerous part of
the Trump-Pence ticket is …that calculating quiet man who will be leading the charge from behind. Mike Pence is basically against anyone who is not white, conservative, Christian, and male.

When
Mike Pence was a young lawyer on the rise, he challenged a longtime
Democratic congressman for a seat in a Republican-leaning Indiana
district. He seemed to have it in the bag until voters were stunned to
learn that he had been using political donations to pay personal
expenses including the mortgage on his house, his credit card bill,
groceries, golf tournament fees, and car payments for his wife.”
