I’m a gay homosexual male man but as soon as I saw Cate Blanchett start turning those looks in Ocean’s 8 I could feel the powerful psychic energies of thousands of my lesbian and bisexual sisters collectively swooning at the sight and honestly I’m so happy for y’all you drink in that raw sapphic beauty this weekend you deserve it.

this is a powerful lgbtq sibling

LGBTQ+ superheroes for Pride month ❤

Nice try but the first 3 are not gay. You Tumblr degenerate send your wishful thinking. seriously do you people have to ruin everything…

Deadpool is pansexual. Loki is bisexual and gender fluid. Wonder Woman is bisexual like all the Amazons. Educate yourself about comic canon before saying something ridiculous.

Do you have any reliable sources that can back this up?

You mean… besides the fucking comics?!

Wonder Woman was shown as canonically bisexual in the main DCU continuity in Wonder Woman: Year One (She was heavily implied to be numerous times before then but it was stated canonically in that comic that she had romantic and sexual relationships with multiple Amazons and left her girlfriend behind to journey to our world to stop the threat of Ares sons bringing chaos and war to the world)

She’s also canonically bisexual in Wonder Woman: Earth One where she straight up tells Steve Trevor that another Amazon is her lover and also in DC Comics Bombshells where she and Mera were girlfriends

Loki is canonically bisexual and generfluid…they have shifted from male to female multiple times stating that both are their real form and Odin, Loki’s father, referred to Loki as “Their child who is both male and female” in a published Marvel comics

And anyone who thinks Deadpool is straight has not only never read the comics but also apparently never been to see either movie either because I’m not sure what part of Deadpool grabbing Colossus’s chrome plated ass and dry humping him made them think “Yeah this is a Totally Straight Hetero Just Bros Being Bros”

Fucking fake nerd bros

ive been reading a book that basically explains how so-called “brain differences” between the genders is the result of gendered socialization and not the cause of it. i honestly expected the book to be very cis-centric but its actually the opposite, the author stresses that testimony from trans ppl is actually indispensable because we’ve, in a sense, “lived both experiences”

more cis feminists should have this mindset

one of the first examples that she uses to introduce her point about how perception by others can shape a person’s performance actually uses a trans woman. it explains that as a certain trans woman became to be seen as a woman more and more frequently, the ppl arond her eventually started viewing her as being ill equipped for tasks that they did not bother her about pre-transition. eventually she even found herself underperforming in these tasks herself.

whats the name of the book

when you’re a bi woman, you grow up fully expecting to spend your life with a man. when you’re young that doesn’t seem like a bad thing because you do like boys! boys are cute and make your heart do flips when they give you attention and show you kindness. it feels right that you will spend your life with one. you don’t think about how you feel around girls, because you think it’s normal. you don’t question why you have an urge to be affectionate with the girls in your life, why you are so fixated on pretty girls, why you want to be friends with the girls you think are cute but you’re too nervous to talk to them. you don’t question it because you like boys. but when you get older you realize that not every girl feels like you do about other girls. you hear the word lesbian spat as an ugly word, the idea of liking other girls is talked about like a disgusting thing. you realize it’s not seen as normal to want to kiss other girls or to fixate on the pretty girls in your favorite shows rather than the boys. so you focus on boys.

when you get older, boys are rude and crass and you feel like you should appreciate them if they treat you with an ounce of respect, but the girls closest to you still treat you with kindness and you feel more comfortable with them than you ever have around boys. you start learning about gay people, and that not everyone thinks it’s a horrible thing, but you still know that you like boys, so you don’t think about it. you finally hear the word bisexual, learn that there are people who are able to like both boys and girls. you think that might be you, but you probably like boys more. liking boys has always come naturally to you, so what if you love being around girls? you probably couldn’t feel romantic feelings about them. plus the word bisexual is wrapped in negative thoughts, it’s not real, it makes you a slut, you just want attention, you’re in denial. but time passes and you think that maybe you are bi, but you don’t want to tell people because you think you might just be convincing yourself of an attraction that isn’t there. but it is, and you find yourself thinking about kissing girls more. having sex with girls too. but that’s wrong, you shouldn’t think of girls that way, especially straight girls. that makes you creepy and predatory! no better than the boys you have started to grow wary of. you’re lying to yourself, you’re straight. you are going to end up with a man anyway, your mom says it’s just a phase, she’s probably right. but you start to see girls in relationships with each other on tv, online, some in your school. and you want it. you think it looks real and beautiful, like the most comfortable thing you could do. so maybe you could have that. maybe you can love girls and hold their hand. maybe your attraction to men doesn’t mean you have any less of a capacity to love a woman. you can picture it now. but you will marry a man, of course you will marry a man. but what if you don’t? what if you could have a wife? what if you grow old with a woman and love her more than anyone? what if you don’t have to think of men as the default. suddenly the word “wife” is the best word you can imagine yourself saying. you are attracted to men, but you love women and can spend your life loving one. there is nothing more healing for a bi woman than realizing that saying the phrase “my wife” is a reality you can have, a tangible reality, and one day you can get there.

to the women who are still questioning that feel scared by how much they relate to this post: i love you, i’m proud of you, and i’m hear for you if you need to talk through things. coming to terms with this stuff can be incredibly difficult, especially depending on your current situation. but you will be okay. coming to terms with your sexuality is a difficult yet incredibly rewarding process. even if you haven’t reached that point where you can see yourself marrying a woman yet, you have time. you are all incredible ❤

I think it’s very important to remember that the United States only exists today because of a 1770s gay sex scandal.

image

In 1777, the US Continental Army was in rough shape, consisting of poorly provisioned and poorly trained men that really just wanted to go home. Because the idea of a cohesive US was new, many of them considered themselves to be fighting for their individual colony’s freedom and were not happy to find themselves several states over freezing and starving to death.

Enter our man, Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben (usually called Baron von Steuban).

image

Baron Von Steuben was an extremely accomplished and brilliant Prussian military strategist and commander, having served as aide-de-camp to freaking Frederick the Great and done all sorts of awesome military shit you can go look up.

There was just one problem: Baron von Steuban was very very infamously gay. Like. One of the most explicitly, openly-acknowledged gay historical figures in pre-nineteenth century history. Very gay.

This created a HUGE scandal in Prussia, and Baron von Steuban was all but chased out of the country once the gossip broke out. Looking for refuge and still wanting to make a name for himself, he took up an offer from Benjamin Franklin to volunteer with the American revolutionary effort and was eventually promoted to Inspector General of the Continential Army [essentially Washington’s #2].

To make a very long military history story short, he basically single-handedly saved our asses. He trained the American soldiers to perform drills, fight in tactical formations, preserve and protect supplies, and strategize. He led the military in decisive battles and decisions that turned the tide of the war in our favor. Every American public school kid learns about him as one of the most important military figures in our history, and almost certainly the reason we won the American Revolution.

image

[This pic is much nicer about his nose]

So like…without that sex scandal he would have never fled to the United States. We would have never found another guaranteed non-treasonous, highly skilled military leader to work for the US Continental Army for free. All the soldiers would have eventually AWOLed from their ranks and gone home (it was already beginning to happen). There would be no America as we know and understand it today.

Interestingly, although the US Continental Army did target and punish men for having sex with each other, they turned a very blind eye to Baron von Steuben’s public posse of sugar babies protégés. Later in his life, he actually “adopted” some of his lovers (of a range of ages) so that under American law, they could inherit his estate after his death. His whole life is really fascinating tbh & I’d recommend reading up on it a bit more if you get the chance.

Von Steuben also wrote the military Blue Book!  Parts of it are still used today!  My dad served as an officer in the US and German armies decades ago and he was pleasantly surprised to find similarities in the training manuals he was supposed to use because they were both based off of the same guy’s text.  Growing up, von Steuben was the only military figure he’d talk about because he’s a giant hippie but also his family was originally from Prussia and therefore he liked him a lot.  He was very pleased to find out a couple years ago about the gay sex scandal thing.

military excellence is gay culture

Happy Pride Month, y’all!

Okay, hopefully that’s a good start ❤

the OP of the screenshotted tweet is on tumblr, and an author too, having put out Chameleon Moon and related stories.

I’m really relieved that both RoAnna and Heather’s books are linked on this post because if their tweets were going to be circulating around Tumblr with no way to indicate that Heather’s written a three-book (so far) fantasy series about magical lesbians and bi women in early 19th century Central Europe and RoAnna writes hopeful superhero dystopians that feature the only f/f/f triad MC’s I can think of in any book, that would have been hecking unfair.

@affablyevil, I hope that helps, but if you want more books, here’s a list I made a while ago of ten SFF f/f’s where they don’t die, and I am continually reading more and recommending more. (Have you heard of Flowers of Luna? College f/f set at fashion design college on the moon.)

[image description: a tweet from RoAnna Sylver (@RoAnna Syvler) reading “This June, please rememeber that there are more LGBT books than the ones you see everywhere put out by the Big 5, ad indies are amazing/worthy.” The next reblog is a tweet from Heather Rose Jones (@heatherrosejones) reading: “Making a list of queer SFF for Pride Month? Remember to look outside the mainstream presses. Don’t shut queer publishers out of queer lit.”]

Here’s a bunch of Goodreads lists that might help!
