Bayard Rustin was an openly gay Black man who was Martin Luther King’s right hand man. He planned the Million Man March and was subject to scrutiny for his sexuality and deemed a “deviant” and “pervert”.
Bayard Rustin can be found in nearly every picture of MLK yet he has undoubtedly been erased from history. We have to fix that.
Well then, let’s bring that name back.

Yeah he was literally the guy who was the head of planning the March on Washington.

On Saturday, a United States district judge ruled that doctors may turn away women who have had abortions and transgender patients on the basis of religious freedom.
In his verdict, Judge Reed O’Connor argued laws that would otherwise forbid gender-based discrimination require doctors “to remove the categorical exclusion of transitions and abortions (a condition they assert is a reflection of their religious beliefs and an exercise of their religion) and conduct an individualized assessment of every request for those procedures.“
In other words, doctors would have to argue on an individual basis their refusal of a patient.
This requirement, O’Connor said, “imposes a burden” on doctors’ ability to exercise their religion. Read more

this era was called the lavender scare and was both a direct result of mccarthyism and the classification of homosexuality as a mental illness during ww2. over 10,000 lesbians and gay men lost their jobs and as a result the daughters of bilitis (the first ever lesbian activist group in the u.s.) formed in order to protect themselves and gay men
How Carmen Carrera’s interview on Katie Couric’s show went down
Carmen discussed her goal to become the first trans Victoria’s Secret model, so the interview had a good start
The interview started to go downhill after Katie Couric starting to only ask questions about Carmen’s transition and introducing her by saying “she was born a man and that’s why she’s on our show”
But she managed to handle it pretty well
And then Katie asked this

But Carmen then proceeded to shut Katie down and explain that there are other things to discuss
