hey yall

deathofabvchelor:

okay so i know you are all familiar with hit filipino icon Charice

aka singer of this iconic BOP pyramids

a couple years ago she came out as a lesbian on a filipino talk show (as well as on oprah’s talk show ‘where are they now’) which is a HUGE movement especially with her being filipino because the philippines is not a very lgbt+ friendly country. however her courage to come out really gave lgbt filipino teens a voice and an inspiration.

and a couple days ago (6.19.17) charice announced that she will no longer be known as charice. instead, he is known as jake zyrus

so please please please go do share some support and love for jake because he really deserves this. he’s such an important lgbt icon for filipino youth and i think it’s really important that we give him the recognition and praise he deserves.

Fun History Fact: The overwhelming majority of cowboys in the U.S. were Indigenous, Black, and/or Mexican persons. The omnipresent white cowboy is a Hollywood studio concoction meant to uphold the mythology of white masculinity.

Thank you.

I will always re-blog this

I think it was high school when i overheard some white girl put on her best semi-disgusted and confused voice and go “why do so many Mexicans dress up like cowboys?” and I had to be the person to tell her.

Why do you think the whites say buckero? Cause they couldn’t say vaquero.

I dunno if I reblogged this before but fuck it, y’all gon learn today.

Teach the children.

also, cowboy culture was hella gay. like, write-poems-about-your-cowboy-partner gay.

IF people acknowledge it, they play the necessity card– there weren’t any women out on the range, so they had to “resort to men.” this claim completely erases 1) the romantic (not just sexual) writings of actual cowboys, 2) the acknowledgement of cowboys’ potential homosexual activity by writers at the time, and 3) the possibility that some men would deliberately become cowboys with the intent to seek out homosexual encounters.

no one wants to admit it, but cowboy culture was just. so inherently gay.

Im here for the gay POC cowboys

There’s a kind of beauty in tacky lesbian fashion because yeah some of it may be ugly but? The confidence behind it. Infuriates straight men. Like you’re not sexually available to me AND you look weird in an off-putting way that doesn’t appeal to me? They can’t stand it and I find that hilarious and support my tacky lesbians

Wait this is meant to be unattractive? Straight men think this is unattractive? Did I miss something or is this look actually v. hot. Is it only hot to wlw?

Ummm im here for vintage lesbians

i’m sure someone probably commented on this post already but this is calamity jane, they eventually move into a tiny cabin together and sing a song about how “a woman’s touch” can fix anything. i watched this movie daily when i was about 7 and now i’m a dyke

my butch lesbian professor who is well into her sixties had told me that this was her first real exposure to the concept that a woman could not only be attracted to other women, but be butch while doing it. she said this movie propelled her into her sexuality with a sense of pride and remains a cornerstone of her coming-out journey. in short, representation matters and always has.

@bunnyfemme

@fairymascot

yeah for reference, here’s the “fixing up the cabin” song

i really want to believe that at least one person in the production knew precisely what they were doing

i actually need to watch this movie instead of just having it on my to-watch list

Finland will keep sterilizing trans people after it rejects law reform

seriesofnonsequiturs:

projectqueer:

The Finnish Government will not make changes recommended by the UN Human Rights Council to reform the ‘Trans Act.’ Rebecca Dallison, Amnesty UK’s Campaigner told Gay Star News:

‘Despite strong international pressure, Finland has decided to reject recommendations from the Universal periodic review in the UN Human Rights Council to reform the Trans Act. ‘Not only has the Finnish Government chosen to turn its back on trans people, but it has also failed to provide any justification for this regressive decision.’

This means trans people will continue to be sterilized if they want to have their gender changed legally. Sakris Kupila is the 21-year-old medical student leading the fight for trans people to choose their gender identity.

They describe this process as a violation:

‘The psychiatric diagnosing process felt like I was handing my dignity, identity, and future over to doctors, nurses and officials that would thoroughly examine me and judge whether or not my sense of self-was real or not’

‘The requirement of sterilization is a violation of bodily integrity.’

Finland will keep sterilizing trans people after it rejects law reform

brooklyn99:

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine manages to address gay rights thoughtfully with little fanfare. Other mainstream shows strike a self-congratulatory tone when taking on gay issues.” (source)

“While Nine-Nine’s inclusion of a gay man of color who’s over 50 (Holt’s age is not directly mentioned, but Braugher is currently 51) as a lead on a prime-time comedy would be enough to pique our interest, the show actively combats the homophobia that has become standard fare in buddy-cop comedies.” (source)

Lucy Lawless

#she’s always been such a willing ally #it was her idea to kiss a transwoman onscreen in one episode. in the year 1996. to help combat social stigma #she’s a gift

Lucy flawless

The transwoman they had on the show was also an AIDS activist, and had AIDS herself… *and* in a time when there was MUCH greater social stigma around the disease. Lucy had her on, and kissed her on screen…during a time when people were still afraid of getting AIDS from kissing or from toilet seats.

They also had Alexis Arquette as a character on the show in a later season.

I love all the reblog facts!!!

Look, I know this oddly-worded Washington Post headline is really about millennials killing the restaurant industry with their loud speaking voices, but it reads like we’re about to have a major lesbian hearing loss epidemic. My mother was scandalized this morning and I’m still laughing hours later.
