I’m really interested in Joan’s wardrobe changes over the past two seasons – during seasons 1-3, her costuming was very casual and very feminine – lots of loose, open, blouses, lots of flowy skirts and dresses, and soft, drap-ey cardigans. Even her autumn/winter wear followed the same style, there were few episodes where she’d swap skirts for jeans, usually she just layered up with tights Like A Champ. In any case, her clothes very clearly broadcasts her as a civilian, not an officer of the law; it’s not meant to clearly identify her as someone who works with police.

a ruffled grey dress, tights, black ankle boots and beige overcoat 3) Joan wearing a grey cardigan, ruffled black skirt and purple blouse]
Starting from s4, however, Joan’s clothes have been more formal. We see a lot more suits, or suit-like attire – slacks, collared shirts, blazers, ties and bowties – and unlike her previous costumes, they’re also tend to be more fitted. They’ve growing steadily more white-collar office chic, but still not plain enough for official Law Enforcement attire – she’s wearing more masculine clothing like short ties, short sleeves and bows/bow ties, but they’re obviously less casual than her clothes for previous seasons.

But most importantly, starting from season 5, her attire is less ‘civilian consultant chic’ and more reminiscent of the outfit of an FBI agent.
Take her at the crime scenes in 5.01 and 5.04, for example: she doesn’t look at all out of place at the scene, and if she started commanding forensics and taking the lead, you bet people would listen.

pattered shirt underneath]
They’re not the only thing she wears, but they’ve made a lot more appearances and I’d wager that they make up at least half of her outfits in season 5 so far.
I wonder if it’s to broadcast the message that she’s so much more confident in her work as a detective – by the start of season 4, she’s done a solo stint as a PI, had numerous clients, worked with the FBI and helped close a major organised crime case – or if it’s to broadcast to others law enforcement that she’s deserving of her place at the crime scene.
I’m gonna need to double check, but I think she wears a lot of the more “formal outfits” (collared shirts with ties and slacks) when she’s visiting the crime scene or going to the precinct, but not when she’s going round to interview/question persons of interest – there we see pattered shirts, skirts, shorts and so on.
Which is another interesting point – for one, both her and Sherlock have been put under question and scrutiny, so her dressing to conform to the dress code of law enforcement makes sense. But on another note, people tend to close up around the police, so Joan dressed in less formal clothing when going around to do questioning could be her using her position to her advantage. She’s officially a civilian, and so she could definitely use that to catch people off guard.
The director said he didn’t tell star Maria Schneider because he “wanted her reaction as a girl not as an actress.”
CONTENT NOTICE: This article contains disturbing stories of rape and assault.
It’s known as one of the most infamous rape scenes in Hollywood history—but Last Tango in Paris director Bernardo Bertolucci admitted in a recently surfaced video that star Maria Schneider never consented to it.
Instead,
Bertolucci confessed in the 2013 clip that he and Marlon Brando came up
with the idea to shoot the assault scene in which Brando’s character
uses a stick of butter to rape Schneider on screen. At the time, Brando
was 48. Schneider was just 19.
“The
sequence of the butter is an idea that I had with Marlon in the morning
before shooting,” Bertulocci said in an event held at La Cinémathèque
Française in Paris in 2013. He added that he felt horrible “in a way”
for his treatment of Schneider but defended himself, explaining that he
“wanted her reaction as a girl, not as an actress.”
“I
wanted her to react humiliated,” he said. “I think she hated me and
also Marlon because we didn’t tell her.” Even so, Bertolucci clarified
that he didn’t “regret” how he decided to direct the scene.
“To
obtain something I think you have to be completely free,” he said. “I
didn’t want Maria to act her humiliation her rage, I wanted her to Maria
to feel…the rage and humiliation. Then she hated me for all of her
life.”
Here is the clip:
After Last Tango in Paris,
Schneider never shot another nude scene. She struggled with drug
addiction and depression following the attention the movie brought her.
In an exclusive to the Daily Mail in 2007, Schneider wrote that she had felt violated by the experience.
“I felt humiliated and to be honest, I felt a little raped, both by Marlon and by Bertolucci,” she said. “After the scene, Marlon didn’t console me or [apologize]. Thankfully, there was just one take.”
She wasn’t a little raped. She WAS raped. Brando & Bertolucci are despicable.
*male artist voice* this is my new project, it’s like, the dark side of Disney princesses. so like, Alice is on drugs, belle has Stockholm syndrome, jasmine is a terrorist and sleeping beauty is getting plastic surgery. it’s super cutting edge as you can see

Don’t forget to check out my latest project called ‘millennials’, where I critique society’s obsession with technology through a series of paintings such as ‘people in suits staring at phone screens which are sucking their souls out’, ‘white woman takes a selfie as the world burns around her’, ‘teenage girl photographs a shipwreck and ignores the drowning passengers in favour of choosing an Instagram filter’, and finally ‘image which bluntly reminds you, the viewer, that you too are a slave to technology, as you are viewing my artwork through the medium of a screen, completely ignoring the fact that I made all these paintings on a computer and uploaded them to Deviantart myself’.
every time i check back on this post it keeps getting better

“But see, the women in my work choose to be naked, so that’s empowering, because it’s a woman making a choice, even though, as her male creator, I ultimately make all her choices. Just ignore that last bit. They get power from their sexuality, power they can use against men, so really, naked women have all the power and control here.”
reminder that casey affleck, who has already won multiple critics awards this season and might win the best actor oscar, repeatedly harassed a female producer, grabbed her & sent her abusive text messages + harassed another and got into bed with her and touched her while she was sleeping + refused to credit the women for their work/pay them (x) and his PR team is getting anyone who writes about it to take their story down (x)

Sorry, did you say she wasn’t a role model?
marilyn is my biggest role model so don’t even go there
and let’s not forget this
Ella Fitzgerald was not allowed to play at the popular Mocambo, in Hollywood, because of her race. Marilyn, who loved her music and supported civil rights, called the owner of the Mocambo and told him that if he booked Ella immediately, she would take a front table every night. The owner said yes, and Marilyn was there, front table, every night. After that, Ella never had to play in a small jazz club again.

MEMORIZE THE PACKAGING SO YOU MAKE SURE YOU NEVER BUY THIS CREAM FOR YOURSELF OR ANYONE YOU LOVE.
This post is about vaginas. My vagina in particular. I get yeast infections pretty regularly, and until recently I was able to afford to see a doctor who could prescribe me fluconazole.
Fluconazole, a drug also known by the brand name Diflucan, is a small pink pill. You take two pills a few days apart from each other to restore balance and harmony to your bountiful folds. I’ve never ever had a bad side effect from taking this pill.
Cut to November 2016. I’m a recent college grad without reliable health care coverage in the process of finding a job. And I’m dealing with a yeast infection. Before I moved out of state, my previous doctor told me about Miconazole. She said it was as effective as the pill and hallelujah, it’s over the counter! I decided to purchase the cream pictured above. This treatment only lasted 3 days, a convenient time frame for my schedule.
The application process was a little messy, and some of the cream came in contact with my vulva and labia. Within 5 minutes every piece of skin that had come in contact with the cream, excluding my hands, was on fire. I wanted to scream it was so painful. I began frantically searching for what I should do online.
I found a whole forum of people on drugs.com who had experienced something similar. These comments saved me, and these were just on the first page. There were 33 pages total, the earliest dated July 2009.
I was writhing in pain at 2AM when I found this forum (which I found by searching “my vagina burn itch hurts after miconazole” on Google). As soon as I read these comments I threw the devil cream directly into the trash and jumped in the shower. I didn’t feel any actual relief until I reached in and scraped the cream out of me. I paid $17 plus tax on this bullshit, but I could have just as easily ripped up my money or paid someone to not hurt me.
The moral of the story is that vaginal health care is is completely fucked up because we don’t have access to an over the counter cure for yeast infections that is safe for our bodies and also YOU SHOULD NEVER BUY THIS CREAM EVER.
