what i want to know is what is the legal situation of scooby doo. they can kick him out of a hotel for being a pet (while he gets frustrated because ‘he’s not a pet’ implying he has legal rights) but also put him in jail. how does this all work. can scooby doo vote

his whole family lives an a house int he suburbs i believe theyre legal citizens

Where does that leave us though? He’s constantly kicked out of buildings simply on the fact that he’s a dog. Either he has the rights of the average animal (which is highly disturbing giving he’s, you know, a person) or he is a legal citizen which means a) Scooby Doo is constantly having his rights infringed upon, or b) segregation of talking animals is legal in the scooby dooniverse, and in either case the most sympathy he gets from anyone is just a “Sorry Scoob” and the keys to the mystery machine so he doesn’t freeze to death. Does the gang actually agree with this treatment or are they just that used to it? This is all very worrying to me u understand

perhaps his is the only family of talking dogs due to some freak accident involving nuclear waste and/or mad scientists which would mean that while they were granted citizenship most people wouldnt have known about it and while at that point i feel scooby and his fam wiuld start to being their IDs everywhere they also dont have pockets?? idk theres a lot of uncertainty here

canonically, scooby doo is part elder god and that’s why he and other hanna barbera-verse animals (yogi bear/jabberjaw/etc.) can talk and apparently this has been going on all throughout human history?? so i’m sure they’re pretty used to their presence

What the actual fuck is this post

im just talkin scoob politics man

Yeah Cartoon Network’s Mystery Inc held that angelic alien beings came to Earth and “intermingled” with animals and to this day the descendants of those animals can talk.

Also there’s an ancient evil that manipulates fate so that bands of mystery-obsessed humans keep teaming up with these animals. This is part of the fulfillment of a prophecy to reawaken it and end the world.

What on earth is this canon from?

Mystery Inc was a series, and it’s a felony crime that it slipped by people just enough to never enjoy a big fandom

Bonus : the reason petty criminals concoct needlessly elaborate monster disguises with advanced special effects technology is that they’re literally possessed by the idea of that monster which stalks and torments them in an alternate dream-reality courtesy the same ancient evil

also they still couldn’t just come out with it at that point on Cartoon Network but by Season 2 it’s well established Velma is gay

I thought she was dating Shaggy in that series though? I didn’t really watch it very long. So does that mean she’s Bi in like, all other Scooby Doo things now?

SPOILERS: she starts out basically kinda pushing Shaggy into a relationship that becomes increasingly awkward and strained due to his flaky interest, Scooby’s possessiveness (yes, really) and Velma’s increasingly frantic desperation to just be seen with a boyfriend until it finally falls apart and she spends a lot of time feeling sad and lonely and hating herself until she meets a girl she has tons in common with and they become “very close friends”. This show came and went before Steven Universe paved the way to be a little more upfront with these things, but the writer’s still left little room to interpret what they were aiming for.
