some idiot: um just tell them you’re gay sweaty

meanwhile,straight men:

Worth noting: She told the dude several times before, politely, that she wasn’t interested and he wouldn’t take no for an answer and kept following and pestering her. After turning him down multiple times, she finally said she was gay, and he snapped and started attacking her. He climbed on her windshield, kicked it in and shattered it, causing glass to get in her eyes.

Also worth noting iirc, there were numerous witnesses and not one person did anything to help this woman. They all saw this man pestering her, her turning him down, repeatedly, and him jumping up on her car to kick her windshield in and her driving to try and shake him off, that not working, and her jumping from the car to flee. And no one did anything. The police never caught him.

“Since he did this and got away with it, he had no repercussions,” she said. “He’s going to think ‘if a girl rejects me, I can do this to her. I didn’t get caught last time.’ ” (source)

How about instead of “just tell them you’re gay” we teach men how to take no for an answer?

Republicans propose bill making it legal for police to kill protesters

The Indiana state legislature is considering an authoritarian bill that would essentially allow police to kill protesters with zero accountability.

Republican senator Jim Tomes introduced Senate Bill 285 in January, though it was given its first committee hearing on Wednesday. The bill authorizes city officials to use “any means necessary” to break up a group of 10 or more protesters blocking traffic, “even to the point of costing lives.”

American politicians are getting far too unafraid for their own lives, somebody should remind them what a guillotine looks like

The link to this story is broken for me. Here are two others from IndyStar and The Guardian.

Holy shit

This is literally murder

Where’s all the 2nd amendment folks who say they need guns to prevent the government from becoming totalitarian?

Trans Woman From Migrant Caravan Dies in ICE Detention

justsomeantifas:

A 33-year-old transgender Honduran woman who was part of the so-called refugee caravan has died after being detained by immigration authorities.

Immigration officials identified the woman as Jeffry Hernandez, but LGBTQ immigrant rights advocates with the Transgender Law Center said she was an asylum seeker named Roxana Hernández.

A representative with the group Pueblo Sin Fronteras, which organized the caravan, confirmed Hernández was a member of the caravan.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said in a statement that Hernández “applied for admission” at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in California on May 9, 2018.

“When she presented [herself at the port of entry] she was smiling [because] the government finally allowed her to seek asylum,” Nakai Flotte, an organizer with Diversidad Sin Fronteras, told Splinter. Flotte said Hernández had to wait two weeks before officials at the port of entry would admit her.

BuzzFeed reporter Adolfo Flores interviewed Hernández when she was traveling with the caravan. Hernández told BuzzFeed she was fleeing “transgender discrimination” and that MS-13 gang members who had gang raped her told her, “we don’t want you in this neighborhood, you fucking faggot.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers detained Hernández on May 9 and “determined that she had no status to legally enter the United States; she was processed for expedited removal,” a CBP spokesperson told Splinter.

“During her time in CBP custody, Ms. Hernandez received a medical evaluation from an off-site local medical facility and was cleared for travel and detention before being transferred to the custody of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations on May 13,” the spokesperson continued.

On May 16, Hernández was transferred to the Cibola County Correctional Center, a for-profit jail facility in Milan, New Mexico, where she was detained in a special unit for transgender detainees.

But the following day, Hernández was transferred to the Cibola General Hospital with symptoms of pneumonia, dehydration, and complications associated with HIV, according to ICE officials. She was then transferred to the Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque where she remained in intensive care until she was pronounced dead on May 25.

LGBTQ immigrant rights advocates are questioning the conditions Hernández was detained in while in CPB custody.

She was processed and held for 5 days in the dreaded ‘icebox’ – holding cells with extremely low temperatures – in U.S. Customs & Border Protection suffering cold, lack of adequate food or medical care, with the lights on 24 hours a day, under lock & key,” read a statement released on Tuesday night by Pueblo Sin Fronteras, and the immigrant rights groups Al Otro Lado and Diversidad Sin Fronteras.

The statement said Hernández “traveled over 2,000 miles through Mexican territory on foot, by train, by bus because her last aspiration and hope was to save her own life.”

“She always kept it to herself and focused on surviving and escaping violence,” Flotte, the organizer who made the trek across Mexico with Hernández, told Splinter. “She got sick during the icebox where they separated her from everyone else.”

A 2015 report from the American Immigration Council described the infamous “icebox” as holding cells without beds that “are extremely cold, frequently overcrowded, and routinely lacking in adequate food, water, and medical care.”

I guess only white children are “precious gifts from god”

The people blaming the parents in the notes for this are disgusting.

Anyone who feels anything less than compassion for these children and asylum seekers can deport their racist asses straight to hell.

This is, and should be recognised as, a human rights violation.

The entirely unnecessary demise of Barnes & Noble

Posts like this aren’t my usual fare, but there’s a lot of
readers on Tumblr. So y’all might be interested – or, if not, you really should
be.

On Monday, this went down:

That’s the bloodless, matter-of-fact, ho-hum business event
way of describing it. Let me paint you a different picture.

On Monday morning, every single Barnes & Noble location –
that’s 781 stores – told their full-time employees to pack up and leave. The
eliminated positions were as follows: the head cashiers (those are the people
responsible for handling the money), the receiving managers (the people
responsible for bringing in product and making sure it goes where it should),
the digital leads (the people responsible for solving Nook problems), the newsstand
leads (the people responsible for distributing the magazines), and the bargain
leads (the people responsible for keeping up the massive discount sections). A
few of the larger stores were able to spare their head cashiers and their
receiving managers, but not many.

Just about everyone lost between 3 and 7 employees. The
unofficial numbers put the total around 1,800 people.

People.

We’re not talking post-holiday culling of seasonal workers.
This was the Red Wedding. Every person laid off was a full-time
employee
. These were people for whom Barnes & Noble was a career.
Most of them had given 5, 10, 20 years to the company. In most cases it was
their sole source of income.

There was no warning.

But it gets worse.

Nabra, 17 years old, was walking to a mosque before she was murdered… Police think that she was most likely beaten to death with a bat, and I think that the motive behind this is Islamophobia. this has happened to me more times than i can count — i’ve found out when they ejaculate on me (a lot of times on my face without asking) that they took the condom off somewhere in the middle of sex. recently, a man i regularly hooked up with told me he “couldn’t come with a condom on” and i asked how he did it when we had sex before and he laughed and said, “i took it off less than half way through.”

this is something men don’t take seriously, but women are forced to — we’re the ones who have to get the plan b, who have to go get tested, who have to stress about what will happen next. men minds turn off the second after they orgasm.

it is absolutely non-consensual to take a condom off without the sex partner knowing.

Men seem to have no idea how fucking cruel this is, those weeks we spend afterward, panicking over whether we might be pregnant and what we’re going to do about it if we are and what if we caught something? Nah, they probably do have a sense of it; they just don’t fucking care, or they get off on the idea of putting a woman in distress weeks or more after the sexual act has ended.

You are scum if you fucking do this, condone this. End of discussion.

They don’t do it only to us, women. My sister is a doctor and gay men have gone to her consults asking for exams and some have actually shared how their latest hookup removed the condomn without their knowledge and so they were scared to have an STD. Anyone that does this to anyone deserves no respect.

Oklahoma Rep. Justin Humphrey outright confirming that y’all think of us as subhuman incubators:

“I understand that they feel like that is ‘their body.’ I feel like it is a separate — what I call them is, is you’re a ‘host.’ And you know when you enter into a relationship you’re going to be that host and so, you know, if you pre-know that then take all precautions and don’t get pregnant. So that’s where I’m at. I’m like, hey, your body is your body and be responsible with it. But after you’re irresponsible then don’t claim, well, I can just go and do this with another body, when you’re the host and you invited that in.” (source)

Note he said this in defense of his bill that he authored that would require “written permission from her male sexual partner,” to get an abortion.

Um does this guy think being pregnant is summoning a demon or something cause that’s demon summoning language

If people don’t think women’s bodies are being controlled, they aren’t looking hard enough.

In contrast my husband got a vasectomy and no one even once suggested I might have an opinion on that.

ok so lemme take a minute here to just be fucking mad as all hell.

I don’t like to butt in on people’s posts, lord knows I don’t like starting shit but lemme take a second to tell y’all about getting ur lady bits put out of comission.

I, at the age of 12 years, was diagnosed with PCOS. For you that don’t know what that is, PCOS, or Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, is a LIFELONG medical condition where groups of cysts grow on your ovaries causing the production of female hormones in your body to go batshit nuts and cause a whole sideshow of different symptoms such as but not limited to:

  • Irregular cardiac function (it’s a scary time)
  • severe weight gain and trouble losing weight (i may eat healthy and work out daily but until I was down to 1-2 meals a day of spinach i wasn’t losing weight)
  • severe adolescent acne, and adult acne
  • extra hair on the face, chest, arms, legs, thumbs, belly and back (I shave my face everyday before class and usually before I go to bed)
  • thinning hair on the scalp due to an excess of male hormones
  • irregular or no periods
  • HEAVY periods
  • EXTREME PERIOD PAIN
  • depression and anxiety
  • pelvic pain
  • increased risk for type 2 diabetes
  • Increased for all female reproductive cancers due to infrequency of periods

Now, TMI, but I recently had my first period in 6 FUCKING YEARS. Due to the nature of PCOS generally when you have a period it’s because one of the cysts on your ovaries has burst releasing a flood of hormones into your system as well as built up toxins. Basically, when I had mine my body went into full on panic mode, nausea and vomiting, extreme fatigue, mood swings like you wouldn’t believe, my body went from being relatively alright to the cliffs of fucking Gallipoli in an hour flat. The kicker was on top of all that I had cramping so bad I actually blacked out.

Given that I know this is likely to happen again before I reach menopause, I decided to book an appointment with my local Planned Parenthood (applaud those lovely people and what they do) to see what my options were to make sure it never happens again. After telling me about various hormonal treatments they could prescribe me (not pills but IUDs shots and various other things) I asked them if it was possible for me to get a partial hysterectomy. A partial hysterectomy removes the uterus but keeps the ovaries so that they still are able to produce estrogen. The lady I had the appointment with looked at me with a look of the utmost pity and told me that unfortunately due to my age there would be likely no chance for any doctor to do it. When I pressed her on the topic she said that the most common excuse doctors will give you for it is that you’re too young, you might change your mind and want to have children later in life

Now I dunno if y’all reading this are currently seeing anything wrong with this scenario here but I was told that I, someone who can’t have kids, doesn’t want kids, has never wanted kids, and would be put at severe risk of life threatening complications, have to have had children before anyone would consider giving me a surgery that not only would undoubtedly improve the quality of my life but also remove

Well, knowing that I wouldn’t be able to get a referral from her during the appointment, I went home and decided to research this bullshit. Turns out that there is something commonly evoked when women want to have any part of their reproductive system put out of commission called the three child rule. Basically if you are young, doctors usually wont let you get either a hysterectomy or a partial hysterectomy UNLESS you have already had three children.

HOLD THE MOTHERFUCKING PHONE FOR A WHOLE SECOND AND THINK ABOUT THIS

By most doctors standards, YOU are REQUIRED as a woman to PHYSICALLY GIVE BIRTH to at least 3 CHILDREN before you are able to have any of your reproductive system removed or decommissioned.

And that isn’t even the worst part of it all, these standards DO NOT change when the patient is at high risk for reproductive cancers!

How fucking miserable is it that to take control of your own fucking health in a first world country a woman has to have submitted to the gender roles of having children or actually have contracted cancer or some other immediately life threatening condition.

Meanwhile, the only requirements for men to receive a vasectomy (at least int he states) is that they’re over the age of 18 and are of sound mind and body.
