Chicago police shoot and kill Joshua Beal leading to clash between BLM activists and pro-police protesters

  • Joshua Beal, 25, was in Chicago on Saturday for a funeral for his young cousin who died recently due to gun violence.
  • Beal was driving in the funeral procession of vehicles when he, a firefighter and 2 plainclothes police officers got into a traffic dispute.
  • A firefighter’s insistence that funeral vehicles were blocking an emergency fire lane and causing delays sparked an initial argument
  • Ultimately, one of the police sergeant fatally shot Beal
  • Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Beal had a gun and refused to drop it.
  • Beal’s family said that, not only did he legally own the gun, he did not fire at the officer or firefighter.
  • She said the dispute was sparked by plainclothes police officers who cut off her daughter’s vehicle from the procession and pointed a gun at her daughter, without identifying themselves as officers.

Hours later local Black Lives Matter activists came out to support Beals’s family. Pro-police protesters in the area responded by threatening Beal’s family and activists with violence. Video and witness accounts reveal things got really ugly and racist.

THEY PULLED HIS CAR FROM A FUNERAL PROCESSION AND MURDERED HIM

WHAT KIND OF BARBARIC SHIT

“Their blocking fire lanes” No shit it’s a funeral procession. And if you’re a firefighter why not blare your alarms if you needed them out of the way.

Also what happened to the cop(s) that are supposed to be leading the procession and having warnings put out saying “hey funeral procession coming through”.

Man fuck this shit

Standing Rock has become the largest gathering of Native Americans in more than 100 years, with water protectors and land defenders coming from across North America to stand against the Dakota Access Pipeline. They are risking their lives to protect the land and the generations that will inherit it.

What I desire is that my fellow American citizens stand with us. I ask you to please call or write your Senators and Representative to stop this blindness and greed.

And, if nothing else, please, offer a prayer for my people and all the people who are standing with us in prayer. Just offer some thoughts of protection for us. We ask that you offer a prayer for sensibility and common sense in behalf of all the two legged, as this is not just a Lakota/Dakota issue, this is a human issue.

This land that is being disturbed was once ours. Our people, our Indian Nations lived and governed our people all over this territory. This land across the Cannonball River that is now threatened was forcibly taken from us and there was nothing that we could do about it then and now.

Nonetheless, we still believe that we are the keepers of this beautiful land. Although it was taken from us, we know, we must stand and speak on this land’s behalf. We want everyone and the federal government to respect this land and water and take care of it. That is why our people are standing up and standing with the land and water. We have to be here. It is instructions that the Creator has given us. We have to be here. We have to protect ourselves and those that cannot speak for themselves.

Last remaining speaker of Native language painstakingly creates dictionary

The dictionary took seven years. Marie worked on it constantly, sometimes until late at night, writing down remembered words on scraps of paper and typing them up slowly and carefully. Now she and her daughter hold weekly Wukchumni language classes, and she’s recording an audio version of the dictionary with her grandson.

The video and accompanying high school lesson plan seem like a decent introduction to language revitalization, although I’d add a small preemptive caution: I’ve heard from people involved in language revitalization that many aren’t too fond of death metaphors like “dying”, “disappearing”, “extinct”, “saving”, and so on. Words like “endangered”, “struggling”, “precarious”, “sleeping”, and “revitalizing” emphasize the agency of the communities involved, even in the case where a language is brought back into speech from writings and recordings.

Reblogging again because stuff like this is so important. Please watch the video–it’s so amazing and heart felt.

This is amazing.

Yep, talking about a language in terms of “dying” or “disappering” isnt helpful and creates a false sense of inevitability, which is the last thing u need for successful revitalization. Also it fucking hurts those who speak it because that language is alive in them right now – Not Dead.

If you didn’t get the hint, I really, really hate MCU. I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but what Marvel has done is way too personal for me to be quiet. The one thing I will force upon you with all my heart, is my pure hatred of the Doctor Strange movie. I’m begging you, please boycott Doctor Strange.

What Marvel is doing with this film is inexcusable. I’m Tibetan, and I grew up in America as a child of refugees. My father was a fan of Marvel comics as a child, and one of his favorite stories was Doctor Strange’s, because of his connection to our homeland, Tibet. The Ancient One was a high Tibetan lama who taught Doctor Strange the art of magic. You might think Marvel’s only crime is whitewashing him, but its a lot worse then that. tl;dr Marvel blatantly turned the Ancient One into a white woman, as well as changed Doctor Strange’s original setting of Tibet to Nepal, in order to avoid any involvement with Tibet’s current politics (aka oppression) with Communist China

The reason my parents are refugees is because of the Chinese genocide of Tibetans. Tibet is a country occupied by China, and is one of the most oppressed countries in the world. You probably don’t know much about it because China’s position as a global superpower as well as the government’s complete control of media and news. There is no freedom of speech in all of China, therefore national censorship is extremely common and no one who isn’t involved really knows anything. China pretends that all Tibetans are happy and they really do not like anyone even mentioning the Tibet situation, especially outsiders.

Marvel knows this, one of their main markets is their viewers in China. China has banned a lot of foreign films for long periods of time because of even slight implications of Tibetan oppression (ex: the Avatar the Last Airbender movie). Doctor Strange could get banned if they included Tibet, meaning millions lost. Why bother risking loosing money from China when you can just whitewash everything to cover it up? This is Marvel’s direct statement that they care more about money then human rights, and I’m honestly not surprised. This has always happened, and it will happen again. Literally no one gives a fuck about Tibetans, I’ve seen it happen all my life. Westerners and the Chinese government alike want to hide our oppression, hide our culture until it makes them money, and hide our millions of deaths and losses. If you do happen to be one of the few who do care, please, please, do not support this film and boycott Doctor Strange.

Tibet supporters to protest Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’ over changed character

kurtwagners:

Tonight members of Students for a Free Tibet are protesting cultural erasure in the film Doctor Strange outside of AMC Village 7 in Manhattan. The major criticism is the casting of Tilda Swinton as the Tibetan character The Ancient One.

Also the link’s picture is misleading, those are random fans not Tibetans lol. If you want a real picture, Badheytsang is SFT’s Campaign director, him and office manager Jigme Yama are leading the protest, like and share the post on Facebook!

People who are boycotting Doctor Strange are using the money they would have spent on a movie ticket to donate to Students for a Free Tibet, a nonprofit organization that works in solidarity with the Tibetan people in our struggle for freedom and independence.

Two things: 1.) Congress is trash and I cant wait to vote them out because we do not need a Congress that consistently fails their people and 2.) STOP ADOPTING BABIES FROM OVERSEAS IF YOU AREN’T GOING TO FUCKING TAKE CARE OF THEM. EMOTIONALLY, PHYSICALLY, LEGALLY. IF YOU AREN’T GOING TO TAKE CARE OF A BABY, THEN DON’T TRY TO RAISE ONE. ASIAN CHILDREN ARE NOT EXOTIC SOUVENIRS, SO STOP TREATING THEM LIKE THEY ARE.

The foster care system, the justice system, and the US government has failed this man.

I’m putting this out there as a person who has worked in and with the foster system. In particular, I’ve worked with it in California. But here is shit I saw that’s relevant to this article:

I’m 500% behind everything @geek-baits said, especially the all-caps. And the following is why.

Some people don’t realise that there are a lot of kids in the foster care system who are undocumented (or, “illegal,” except being a person in a country isn’t fucking illegal), and there are a ridiculous amount of reasons for this. Here are some of the reasons my students (in an all-foster youth school) gave me for being undocumented:

1. Same as this man. They were adopted by people who then didn’t finish processing their paperwork. This was most commonly Southeast/East Asian children, but it also applied to African children.

2. Some of them were with their also undocumented families. And then they were removed from their families because of complaints of neglect/abuse by neighbours, schools, people LIVING in their community (who weren’t really OF their community), etc. Their families would then be taken in by ICE and deported while they (and some of their siblings) got tossed into foster care. Most of these kids were Latin American.

3. Some children were brought in via trafficking. I had two particular girls who were brought over from Africa (one from Congo, one from Sudan), didn’t have their paperwork processed at all (by their adoptive “parents”), and they were removed from the homes once it was determined that they were being abused. (Both girls, however, told me that nothing happened other than removing them from the home. Their white “parents” were never held accountable, and their files corroborated this along with previous social workers.)

Here’s another fun bit of information: A lot of those kids, especially in groups 1 and 2, don’t realise that they’re undocumented until much later in life. They go to apply for their first job (aged 16+), only to realise they don’t have a social security number; they go to do things that require being a citizen only to realise they can’t and, at that point, are put into a dangerous situation (being deported is a dangerous situation).

It’s gross, it’s disgusting, and shit’s gotta give. We can’t keep doing this to people, and this is disproportionately affecting people of colour.

Trump is only two points ahead in Texas now. If you’re in Texas and vote third party or don’t vote this year, I will personally never forgive you for stealing the joy of watching the GOP freak out at Texas going blue from me.

Fellow Texans: DO NOT WRITE IN BERNIE.

He literally does not want your vote, he literally wants you to vote for Hillary, and because of this he did not file to be an approved write-in candidate which means if you write him in your vote literally does not count.

REMINDER TO ALL YOU YOUNG PEOPLE:

bri-ecrit:

shisno:

blasphemous-lies-and-deceit:

Do Not Take A Picture of Your Ballot

It is illegal. Your vote will be thrown out and not counted.

DO NOT post it on Facebook, or Twitter, or Snapchat or Instagram or Tumblr or ANYTHING. Don’t share it with your friends. The likes and notes are not worth it. Just keep your phones in your damn pockets the entire time you’re voting.Take a cute selfie with the “I Voted” sticker afterwards instead.

Please don’t let me read headlines going something like “Millennials fucked up the election by posting pictures of their ballots” because it will be fucking insufferable. And also Trump will probably win and we’ll all be fucked.

Also, DO NOT WEAR ANY SHIRTS, HATS, PINS, BAGS, ETC. THAT SHOWCASE A CERTAIN CANDIDATE OR POLITICIAN WHEN YOU GO TO VOTE!

It’s called passive electioneering, and some states will bar you from entering a voting place if you are wearing anything pro-or-anti-a certain candidate. Show your support that day by voting instead of wearing your candidate proudly on clothes.

THIS IS IMPORTANT.

DO NOT TAKE/POST PICTURES OF YOUR BALLOT.

DON’T DO IT.
