But the superbug is here, much faster than previously anticipated. On Wednesday the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced a cluster of gonorrhea infections that shows both decreased susceptibility to ceftriaxone and very high-level resistance to azithromycin. It’s the first time this superbug has been found in the U.S.

The cluster of antibiotic resistant gonorrhea cases was a small group in Hawai’i, and they have all since been treated and have a clean bill of health.
the resistant variety is still treatable by conventional means, it just requires doctor and patient to both pay closer attention and adjust dosages and times more carefully
the purpose of the CDC document was not to cause panic or scare you out of having sex, it was actually aimed at calling attention to the fact that the reason this is happening is because there is an unprecedented number of people that use their antibiotics wrong and only kill the weakest of the bacteria that are infecting them, leaving the strongest and most resistant to treatment specimens alive to reproduce
not having symptoms anymore doesn’t mean the bacteria are completely gone, it just means there aren’t enough to make you symptomatic. KEEP TAKING YOUR ANTIBIOTICS AFTER THIS POINT UNTIL YOU ARE PRESCRIBED TO STOP TAKING THEM. assuming you’re cured early and stopping your medication is literally why this is happening. don’t assume you know better than your doctor.
new treatments have already gone to clinical trials that have proven effective against all known strains of gonorrhea, including the antibiotic resistant ones.

Numerous Jewish community centers on the east coast received anonymous bomb threats via phone Monday, forcing evacuations and police responses.
Some of the calls were prerecorded while others were live, and likely came from the same telephone number.
NBC reported threats were made to facilities as far apart as New Jersey, Florida, Maryland, Tennessee and South Carolina. In a statement, the Anti-Defamation League said threats were also received in Delaware.
Facilities across the county were evacuated, though authorities did not discover any explosive devices.

Temperatures were dipping into unfriendly territory Saturday afternoon as sports fans flocked to the events at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.
At nearby Lykes Gaslight Park, members of Tampa’s homeless community were gathered for hot coffee and bagels, courtesy of the group Food Not Bombs.
There were no altercations, no illicit substances, no bad behavior—unless you count that, according to the City of Tampa, that coffee and bagels were illegal.
Why?
Because you have to have a special permit in order to offer free food to the needy in city parks. But obtaining a city permit to feed the homeless twice a week—to set up a table and open bags of chips and bagels and spoon organic beans and rice from a pot—can be pricey because of the insurance policy the city requires.
Given how often they do it (homeless people have to eat frequently, too), that can add up.
As a result, seven people were arrested. For feeding hungry people in a park.
Some were arrested still wearing the plastic gloves with which they served food.
When police arrived on the scene, they gave the activists three minutes to stop feeding those in need.
Then, they moved in, pulling the volunteers away as they continued to serve.
“Please help yourselves,” one could be heard saying to those still gathered as he was dragged off.
A man who reached for a last-minute bagel was also arrested.
In an email sent to press Saturday night, the group said it “has no plans to stop sharing food with the homeless and hungry and will continue to defy unjust laws that criminalize compassion and mutual aid.”
That includes a planned gathering Tuesday at 8 a.m. in the same location.
“We intend to expose the city’s cruelty in the face of thousands in our community who are struggling with issues of food insecurity, mental and medical health issues, poverty, and homelessness,” a spokesperson for the group said in an email. “If the city will not address these problems, the least they can do is not get in the way and stop others from addressing these needs. Compassion should never be criminalized.
This isn’t the first time activists with the group have been arrested for feeding the homeless, and Food Not Bombs isn’t the only group to have been arrested in Tampa for feeding the homeless. Also, Tampa is not the only city in Florida in which it’s illegal to feed the homeless without proper paperwork.
In Tampa, the group said it has done the same thing in the same park over 100 times with no trouble, and some suspect it has something to do with the College Football Playoff National Championship and related events taking place in Tampa throughout the weekend.

At 1:13 PM EST the U.S. Senate passed a budget resolution that will begin the process of repealing Obamacare. The final vote tally was 51-48. The resolution instructs the House to have a repeal bill ready by January 27.
Seven years ago, on December 24, 2009, the Senate voted 60-39 to pass Obamacare. All Republicans voted against it, all Democrats voted for it.
“Today, we take the first steps to repair the nation’s broken health care system, removing Washington from the equation and putting control back where it belongs: with patients, their families, and their doctors,” Republican Senator Mike Enzi of Wyoming, chairman of the Senate Budget Committee who sponsored the legislation, said in a statement.
Republicans did not have the 60 votes needed to repeal Obamacare, so they opted to defund it via a budget resolution, which only requires a simple majority.
“That means they can essentially gut the law, removing all the subsidies that help low- and middle-income people buy health insurance and getting rid of the smorgasbord of taxes — on medical devices, insurance companies and wealthy individuals — that pay for those subsidies,” NPR explained.
Republicans, despite having voted more than 60 times to repeal Obamacare, have never had a legitimte replacement plan. It is widely reported that they will take two to four years to replace the Affordable Care Act, leaving up to 30 million Americans without insurance, and many paying exceptionally high premiums for having pre-existing conditions, including HIV, diabetes, cancer, and even pregnancy.
Repealing Obamacare also devastates Medicare, and will cost taxpayers billions of dollars. Donald Trump uring the presidential campaign promised he would never touch Social Security or Medicare.

White supremacists across the country have focused their attention on Whitefish, Montana, because of neo-Nazi Richard Spencer.
Spencer’s parents Rand and Sherry Spencer live in Whitefish.
Earlier this month, the town took a firm stance against Spencer’s rhetoric.
A city council meeting included the reading of a recently approved proclamation that “repudiates the ideas and ideology of the founder of the so-called alt-right as a direct affront to the community’s core values.”
An activist in the town called for a boycott and protest of the businesses in a building owned by Sherry Spencer.
In response, Andrew Anglin wrote an article for The Daily Stormer in which he targets Jewish Whitefish residents, exposing their contact information.
The article, entitled “Jews Targeting Richard Spencer’s Mother for Harassment and Exortion. TAKE ACTION!” uses anti-Jewish slurs and describes the Jewish people as “a vicious, evil race of hate-filled psychopaths.“
Anglin calls on supporters to “hit [the named targets] up,” asking “Are y’all ready for an old-fashioned troll storm?“
Targeted individuals and human rights organizations, as well as city council members, have received death threats since the article was published. Local businesses in support of human rights have also been harassed. Read more
