i love that charles dickens got paid by the word. like i cant even be mad when he’s boring and long-winded bc i would do xactly the same??? i wouldnt use contractions or colours at all. want to say the word red? too bad. we r now only using “the colour of freshly-spilled blood on snow; the hue of the horizon when the sun sets over the deserts of sub-saharan Africa” BOOM guess who can afford 2 eat now: me and my boi dickens

What I love about Alexandre Dumas, in contrast, is he got paid by the line. So it’s not really wordy, it more like 80% dialogue which makes it sound pretty modern but also ends up like-

“Where are we going now?”

“We are going to the city.”

“Which city?”

“Paris.”

“We are going to Paris?”

“Yes.”

# can you imagine the kind of extended torture we would have been subject to if victor hugo had been paid by the pun (via vlajean)

So was Nabokov paid by the literary/cultural reference? That’s what I want to know.

Terry Pratchett was paid by the pun and by the footnote

just wondering but why can’t something cute and childish exist without there being a subculture devoted to making it edgy or sexual. like? kirby doesn’t need to be drawn 3,000 times as an eldritch monster with a hyperrealistic mouth and demon eyes. there really isn’t a need for there to be any hentai of the animal crossing villagers, like at all. and alola vulpix definitely does NOT need a 3D butt mouse pad!!!!!!!!!

hey this post is getting taken over by gross people who think they own all children’s media and that drawing copious amounts of gore and porn of it is normal, could i get a few more good reblogs from good people?? it’d mean a lot to me

What I mean when I say “toxic monogamy culture”

  • the normalization of jealousy as an indicator of love
  • the idea that a sufficiently intense love is enough to overcome any practical incompatibilities
  • the idea that you should meet your partner’s every need, and if you don’t, you’re either inadequate or they’re too needy
  • the idea that a sufficiently intense love should cause you to cease to be attracted to anyone else
  • the idea that commitment is synonymous with exclusivity
  • the idea that marriage and children are the only valid teleological justifications for being committed to a relationship
  • the idea that your insecurities are always your partner’s responsibility to tip-toe around and never your responsibility to work on
  • the idea that your value to a partner is directly proportional to the amount of time and energy they spend on you, and it is in zero-sum competition with everything else they value in life
  • the idea that being of value to a partner should always make up a large chunk of how you value yourself

This is excellent

I’m literally gonna reblog this on every single tumblr I have

I don’t even live in Texas but honestly we need politicians like Beto

What’s so great about Beto?

  • Doesn’t take any PAC money or big donor money period. Left or right. Won’t be beholden to big money interests.
  • Already pledged to support Bernie’s Medicare for All bill should he win
  • Legalization of Marijuana, expunging records of nonviolent drug offenders.
  • He wouldn’t have voted for Kavanaugh, and he would have voted for the Violence Against Women reauthorization.
  • Expanding of LGBTQ rights.
  • Public works projects like extending broadband access to rural areas and funding for the rail project between Dallas-SA-Austin-Houston.
  • Bringing back and protecting the voting rights act.
  • Increasing money for the VA.
  • Finding healthy solutions to immigration and the boarder, just like his home town El Paso a boarder town that’s one of the safest cities in the country
  • Prison reform, ending for profit prisons.

You know, the news is really sheltering gentiles from the full horror of what happened this morning when they keep using the phrase “Brit Milah.” Yes, that’s what was happening in the synagogue this morning, but do you know what it is?

It’s a baby naming.

Every bit as important as a christening or first birthday.

That is what this shooter opened fire on. A baby naming with people praying for that baby’s health and happiness and future.

Jeff Sessions was interrupted by a priest who just directly quoted Jesus at him. Jeff Sessions was speaking about not allowing refugees and immigrants into this country.

The priest was removed. Another religious leader stood up and defended the priest, and they were also removed.

Powerful video. Jesus loves that priest, and that priest knows Jesus.

The other minister is a Baptist pastor, Rev. Darrell Hamilton, who I went to school with at Wake Forest Divinity.

These two? This is true Christianity. This is how you practice your faith.

Poor Jeff Sessions. It really sucks to have people express their religious freedom by using religion to tell you what a horrible hypocrite you are, doesn’t it?
