Okay so one of these is the town I grew up in/the town my family still lives in so I actually know what happened here. The local gas company didn’t check the pressure in their pipes and sent too much gas through, which caused the pipes to burst, letting off sparks, which caused the gas to go kaboom.
(My family’s okay, the houses in our neighborhood all have electric heating/appliances, but yeah they’ve cut electricity to almost the entire town “until the situation is resolved” and are encouraging people with gas-powered homes to evacuate.) (My Lawyer Brain immediately went “oh man this gas company is going to get hit with a MASSIVE lawsuit” cause all of this is due to pure negligence – nobody checked the pressure in the lines before sending the gas through.)
