ghettablasta:

Willie Rogers who was the oldest surviving member of the original Tuskegee Airmen has died at 101.

The Tuskegee Airmen is a group of

African-American military pilots both fighter and bomber who participated in

World War II.

Officially, they formed the 332nd Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group of the United States Army Air Forces. Between 1942 and 1946 there were nearly 15,000 African-American men and women. The Tuskegee Airmen were the first Black  military aviators in the US armed forces.

Despite facing discrimination the Tuskegee Airmen

were among World War II’s most respected fighter squadrons.

This St.Petersburg man was so humble and low key about his participation over the years to the point where some of his own family members did not know about his historic past.

Let us take a moment to appreciate Willie Rogers, the man of courage

and a hero. Rest In Power.
