in a play recently and I hope you’re going to be pursuing acting as a
career.’ Nobody else said that to me. And when you look at the screen,
it’s like, ‘Dude, there’s nothing there for you.’ That’s a message
you’re internalising every time you look at the TV screen, every time
you open up a magazine. That you’re not reflected in this culture. That
you don’t belong.
I thought drama school was a stupid idea. But then I
thought, ‘Screw it. Let me apply to just one.’”
