anyway, as the release date of dr strange approaches, here’s a couple of things i wanna get straight on where i stand:
1) if you wanna go financially support this dumpster fire of a movie, you do you, but don’t go back and call yourself an anti-racist ally afterwards. not watching the movie literally isn’t gonna cost you anything; financially supporting it means choosing to support a hugely dehumanising piece of media that you can easily boycoytt without any detriment or nuisance to yourself.
1.5) seriously, even if you’re a diehard fan of the original comics/the actors/whatever, pirate it or something. hq (ish) marvel torrents usually take like a couple of weeks to leak these days.
2) if you’re not asian or chinese, stop speaking over chinese and other asian ppl talking about it, especially tibetans who were erased and whitewashed, especially tibetans talking about chinese communist government’s oppression of the tibetan people (i’m looking really hard @ all the tumblr communists who had the fucking gall to derail the actual, lived experiences of a tibetan user to spew the bullshit communist apologism)
3) i don’t care how many PoC Friends of Colour you have or photoshoots of PoC of Colour you reblog, if you’re white and repeatedly speak over poc in fandom talking about what is/isn’t racist, you’re still an ugly fucking racist lmao.
have a nice day 🙂
thank u for this, a lot of doctor strange posts dont really talk about how whitewashing directly affects tibetan politics and oppression, so i feel like this post is rly important for people to see. a lot of communists and maoists reblogged my post about doctor strange saying extremely violent and racist things about tibet that were so upsetting that i couldnt bring myself to interact with them or write a post about it…so i appreciate you bringing that up
