Mattel just introduced a game developer Barbie with the message, “You can be anything” — including a target for aggressive misogyny. Game developer Barbie has red hair, glasses, a tablet and a laptop. But some men are not having it. The comments about her appearance (and weight) are particularly abhorrent.
These men are sick.
I get tired of people arguing that sexism is dead when shit like this happens all the time.
I feel like Barbie knew exactly what they were doing creating this doll. I like to think they are just like BRING IT. ENJOY THE HUNDREDS OF FEMALE DEVELOPERS INSPIRED BY THIS DOLL IN 15 YEARS.
Personally I’d up the estimate of # of girls inspired over fifteen years from hundreds to “tens or hundreds of thousands.” They will sell a LOT of these toys, a lot of kids will play with them, and this will have a huge effect over time.
